LOOP TRAIN RIDES
The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you, as a historic steam locomotive chugs its way down and up the canyon, hauling your carriages past the remains of several gold and silver mines. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time, gaining an elevation of 600 feet between the thriving mining communities of Georgetown and Silver Plume. There are four bridges across Clear Creek including the massive Devil’s Gate High Bridge, restored in 1984 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its construction. You can enhance your experience by taking a walking tour of the Lebanon silver mine, going 500 feet into a mine tunnel bored by hand in the 1870s. Most rides are in open carriages but closed carriages will be used in early and late season and in inclement weather. If you are just taking a train ride only, departures are from both the Silver Plume and Georgetown Devil’s Gate depots. Mine tours and specialty dinner trains depart only from Silver Plume.
