You are able to take a group or private instructional or guided tour on Lake Dillon, starting at the Dillon Marina. If you have already mastered paddling standing up, rentals are also available for your own self-guided tour. Tours and rentals are also available at Nottingham Lake in Avon (west of Vail, Colorado). If you really want to test your balancing skills, sign up for a trip on the Colorado River near State Bridge, Colorado, about an hour from Vail. If not all of your family members are up for the challenge of Stand up Paddling or are too young, you are able to add a raft to your trip with a minimum of four people. sup lake dillon coloradoIf you have never tried Stand Up Paddling before or you would just like a guide to accompany you or refine your paddling technique, head out on one of the daily tours on Lake Dillon or on Nottingham Lake in Avon. The amount of water covered by your tour is up to the guide and depends on the paddling ability of the group and the conditions on the lake. On Lake Dillon group tours are offered daily from the Dillon Marina. You may also book a private tour just for your group. If you do have children less than the minimum age of ten, they may be accommodated on a private tour.

You are able to rent boards to paddle on Lake Dillon from a location near to the Dillon Marina and Nottingham Lake in Avon. The minimum rental on Lake Dillon is two hours but you can go for more, and the minimum on Nottingham Lake that is much smaller is one hour. The company also has sit-on-top kayaks for rent on Lake Dillon and Pedal Boats on Nottingham Lake. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are recommended.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Colorado River

For those of you who would like more of a challenge, you can take on the flowing waters of the Colorado River. This trip would be great for surfers and experienced paddle boarders as well as families and reunion groups with multiple generations. Granny can cheer her granddaughter on from the comfort of her raft, or join her on a multi-person Subsquatch. The stretch of the Colorado River that is used is about 17 miles north of I70 on the way to Steamboat. The put in is at Rancho Del Rio and the take out is at State Bridge. You will go around sandy islands and see abandoned mining cabins along the Union Pacific Railroad.

Your outfitter is one of the first licensed river outfitters to offer commercial SUP river trips in the state of Colorado. Participants should be in good physical condition and be a comfortable swimmer. There is always a guide with you, with never more than a four to one guide to customer ratio. If you have a younger child than ten years of age, you are able to carry them tandem on your board.

A minimum of four people is needed to power your raft with your guide. This tour is appropriate for young children, friends and family who would prefer to act as cheerleaders for the SUP folks. You will enjoy an extremely scenic tour while you offer hoots of encouragement to the paddlers on boards.

You will actually run the stretch of river twice with lunch between your two trips. Advance your skill on your second trip with the knowledge you have gained on the first run down the river. This tour is also offered as an advanced adventure. On this trip you are taken up river, and float past the base camp and then on to State Bridge. A safety raft accompanies the paddlers, who may take a break in the raft if they are tired or have scouted a rapid and do not wish to run it.

Trip Option 1 | Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga


sup yogaCombine the stretching of yoga with the balance of a paddleboard for an early morning class that will have you energized for the entire day. This activity is challenging, fun and relaxing at the same time. You will start with a quick paddle lesson for those new to a paddleboard. After a short paddle to warm up, you will attach to an anchor system, and enjoy an experience in the crisp morning air, that will leave you connected to the water element and the beauty of the mountains (earth, sun and air), with a greater alignment within yourself and with the surrounding area. This class is offered on Maggie Pond in Breckenridge. You may also book a private tour just for your group at either of the locations. There is no better way to start the day, than combining the dual relaxation of yoga with the surrounding beauty of the Colorado Rockies.
