WOLCOTT YEAR ROUND HORSEBACK RIDES

Located on a historic ranch, about a thirty minute drive west of Vail, this outfitter offers a variety of rides year round in all seasons, through sage brush and wildflowers, and on mesa and mountain tops. From changing seasons to wildlife viewing, every ride covers beautiful terrain, offering breath taking views of the Sawatch Range, Castle Peak, Red and White Mountain and incredible photo opportunities.

Tour Option 1 | 1 Hr, 1.5 Hr, 2 Hr Horseback Rides

Next the trail winds its way up onto a mesa, which offers great views of the Sawatch Range and the 1200-acre ranch itself. This scenic loop offers outstanding views of the ranch from the upper mesa.

Tour Option 2 | Advanced Horseback Rides


afe57-Advanced-RideFor experienced riders you may enjoy either a two hour (one and a half hours in winter) or a half day ride. These rides begin by heading through the open pastures and hay fields, leading up to the advanced gate and then up onto the mesa. It is a trail ride that is advanced because the terrain is more technical and allows for some faster gaits as well as getting out of a single-file line in areas where this is possible. The half day ride offers steeper terrain. At the height of the ride, you will be offered spectacular panoramic views of both Castle Peak and the Gore Range.

BRECKENRIDGE HORSEBACK RIDES

On a trail ride in Breckenridge, you will spend your time exploring the beautiful scenery between Peaks 9 and 10 on the Ten Mile range above Breckenridge. You will experience river crossings, beaver ponds and breathtaking panoramic views of the Continental Divide. Children 45 pounds and under may ride double in the saddle with an adult. For those that are too young or unable to control their own horse, generally 4 to 5 years old, the horse will be led on a rope by one of the wranglers. Children 6 years and older may ride on their own horse or pony. These are general guidelines and are based on a number of factors, including the size and weight of the child and adult.

KEYSTONE HORSEBACK RIDES

Saddle up for a one or two hour guided horseback adventure in the Arapahoe National Forest. An experienced wrangler will guide your ride and share history of the area. Keystone features two stables, one for the one hour rides located on Soda Ridge Road and one for the two hour rides located off Highway 6. The one hour rides are in the forest adjacent to the Ranch Golf Course and the Aqueduct Trail. The two hour rides ascend to higher elevations with views of the ski mountain to the north of the resort. Riders must be at least 8 years of age and there is no double riding allowed. Children 3-7 may take part in Pony Rides at the Soda Ridge Stables.

Tour Option 3 | Pony Rides in Keystone

A parent will lead your child on the pony in the paddock. Hopefully the Belgian draft horses that pull the wagon rides will also be there for your child to see.

UTE PASS HORSEBACK RIDES

Guided rides in the Arapahoe National Forest will take you by the rushing waters of the Williams Fork River and to the top of Saddle Mountain, in the Ute Pass area about 40 minutes north of Silverthorne, Colorado. You will also ride through meadows blooming with Colorado wildflowers. Experience a ride in the morning or afternoon. There is no double riding allowed, and a maximum weight limit of 250 lbs. Private one hour lessons can be arranged for $100 for the first rider and $70 each additional rider, and any ride can be made into a private ride for an additional fee.

ride will give you ample opportunity to explore this historic ranch. During your ride you will stop by the side of the trail for a picnic lunch, snacks, and stunning views, ready for your photos. A minimum of two people is needed for this ride to go out.

KREMMLING HORSEBACK RIDES

Colorado trail rides are a family favorite at this 10,000 acre ranch, where you will find stunning views of the Rockies, aspen forests and open range bursting with wildflowers. This remote location, conveniently accessed from scenic Highway 9, ensures the preservation of the same wildlife and landscape that the first settlers discovered in the 19th century. It is not uncommon for guests to encounter deer, elk, antelope and other large game on these rides. The whispering of the wind and the steady beat of your horse’s hooves are all that you will hear as they carry you through forests of aspen and pine to the breathtaking, mountaintop vista of six different mountain ranges and back down through the fragrant, sage-filled high plains desert. The horses living on this ranch have free range to eat and play while not working and are familiar with the whole of their ranch environment.

CATTLE RIDES

Have you ever dreamed of being a western cowboy? There are two great opportunities to turn your dream into a reality. Experience a Cattle Drive near Kremmling, Colorado or a Cattle Round Up in Wolcott, Colorado. Kremmling is about an hour north of Silverthorne and Wolcott about an hour west of Frisco. Both locations are working cattle ranches where you are able to ride alongside experienced wranglers.

Tour Option 1 | Colorado Cattle Drive near Kremmling

Mount up and ride with cowhands who will teach you how to help them gather and drive their herd on 10,000 acres of undeveloped, open range. Beginner to advanced riders are able to ride at their individual ability levels, so this is a terrific opportunity for groups with mixed riding abilities. The drive involves 3 ½ – 4 hours of riding, with panoramic views of the Continental Divide and the Gore, Williams Fork and Never Summer mountain ranges. Riding terrain varies from open sagebrush plains to aspen and pine-covered hills. A homemade meal will await you upon your return.

Tour Option 2 | Colorado Cattle Round Up in Wolcott


vail-cattle-drives half day experience allows guests to be city slickers. The cattle round up begins on the porch of the Nelson Cabin at the ranch, where the guides give a demonstration talk. Guests then head out on their horses where they can trot and lope and get familiar with their mounts. They then set out in search of the cattle, a herd of 55 to 65, consisting mostly of Corriente cattle. You do need to be an experienced rider to take part, but the guides will assign tasks based on your riding level. A meal is not included but you can always sit down and purchase a hearty lunch at the ranch house after your ride.

    Thomas: Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone will be open for skiing. There may still be ATV and Razor tours or rentals and Jeep tours, or they may have switched over to snowmobiling depending on the snow. Three different zip line course will be available. There is a place that does year round horseback riding about an hour from Summit County. Fly Fishing is offered year round.
