Our sailing partner offers sailboat rentals on Lake Dillon, sailing lessons from Dillon and Lake Dillon sailboat tours on a 22′ Catalina monohull. You are also able to rent out the Lake Dillon Water Taxi for a private charter, or take a guided kayak tour on the lake. For other options contact one of the two marinas on Lake Dillon directly. The Dillon Marina offers sailboats, to those who are able to pass a short sailing test, and also rents pontoon boats, ideal for a slow circumnavigation of Lake Dillon or trawling for some lake trout. If you want a faster pace then you might want to rent a Runabout motor boat. The Frisco Bay Marina offers runabouts, fishing boats and pontoon boats for a power boat trip on the lake. If you prefer a self-powered adventure you might want to rent a canoe, kayak, or stand up paddle board. In addition there is a rowing club located at the marina that offers rentals and lessons for sculls. Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone also have small lakes where boat rentals are offered.

Tour Option 1 | Sailboat Rentals on Lake Dillon


sailboat rental lake dillonIf you have had previous experience sailing and would like to take a group out on Lake Dillon, 22′ Catalina sailboats are available for a sailing tour of this beautiful area. This boat can accommodate a maximum of six people. Your captain must have a sailing certification or the ability to pass a short verbal sailing test to charter the boat. A Captain can be provided by the marina if you do not have one. The boats are equipped with a 4-stroke outboard motor and a roller furling jib.

22’ Catalina Monohull

Cost: $120 for 2 hours, $165 for 3 hours, $205 for 4 hours
Cost Captain: $65 per hour
Maximum: 6 people
Times: Daily 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM start times
Minimum: 2 hours
Duration: 2 – 4 hours

Recommended to bring: Hat with strap, jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses

Important Notes: Skipper must be able to pass a short verbal sailing test and be 21 or over. Meet at the Dillon Marina a half hour before your rental, 48 hour cancellation policy with 20% of rental fee charged for cancellations within 48 hours, rentals may be delayed or cancelled due to inclement weather. All children 13 and under are required to wear a life jacket at all times. Dogs of all sizes are allowed. Boats must be returned by 5:30 pm, boats returned after 5:30 pm will incur a late fee of $75 plus any additional rental fees. Rental fees do not include the cost of fuel. All rentals are subject to a 8.275% tax.

Tour Option 2 | Sit-On-Top Kayak Rentals


sit on top kayakYou are able to rent sit-on-top kayaks to paddle on Lake Dillon from a location near to the Dillon Marina and Nottingham Lake in Avon. The minimum rental on Lake Dillon is two hours but you can go for more, and the minimum on Nottingham Lake that is much smaller is one hour. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are recommended.

Cost Kayak Lake Dillon: $35 for two hours, $10 per additional hour
Cost Kayak Nottingham Lake: $25 for one hour, $10 per additional hour
Tour Time Lake Dillon: 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM
Tour Time Nottingham Lake: 9 AM to 4 PM on the hour
Minimum: 10+
Maximum: 250 lbs
Duration: 1 – 8 hours

Included: kayak, personal flotation device, paddle, safety talk
Recommended to bring: comfortable clothing that will keep you warm if you get wet, bathing suit, drip dry shorts or leggings, rash guard or non-cotton shirt, shoes with a good sole that can get wet and will not come off your feet – tennis shoes, water shoes, athletic sandals with strap (no flip flops or crocs), sunblock, waterproof camera, dry clothes for after your tour.

Important Notes: Arrive half hour before tour time, Directions to Dillon Marina, Directions to Nottingham Lake, 48 hour cancellation policy, 50% charged at time of booking, 7% use fee will be added to the cost of your tour.

Tour Option 1 | Sailboat Lessons on Lake Dillon


sailboat lessons lake dillonIf you have always wanted to learn how to sail, then why not let a trained captain teach you how in a Private or Semi-Private Lesson. Maybe you already know the basics but would like to brush up on your skills. You might know how to sail but do not know how to reef sails or deal with high winds or heavy weather sailing. All of these topics can be covered in a lesson. If you want to gain your sailing certification, this can be done through the Basic Keelboat Course and the American Association certification process.

Semi-Private Lesson:

Cost: $45 per person, per hour
Minimum: 2 hours
Maximum: 5 people
Times: 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM start times, Thursday through Sunday

Private Lesson:

Cost: $65 per hour, one person only with no guests
Minimum: 2 hours
Times: 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM start times, Thursday through Sunday

Basic Keelboat (BKB) American Sailing Association (ASA) Certification Course:

Cost: $483.95 Total, $300 per person for BKB course plus $24.95 for ASA textbook, $120 for the two hour examination and $39 ASA first year membership
Times Group Sessions (3-5 people): 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday
Times Semi-Private Sessions (2 people): 8 hour class during the week or on weekends if there are no group classes
Time Examination: 1 hour written and 1 hour on the water
Minimum: 18 years of age

Sit back and relax and enjoy a spectacular sailing adventure on beautiful Lake Dillon. Sailing on the lake gives you a unique perspective of the Continental Divide, Buffalo Mountain and the Ten Mile Range as you are surrounded by majestic peaks. Feel free to bring a drink and a snack. Tours can be semi-private or private for daytime or sunset.

Non-Private Tour

Cost:$55 per person for 2 hours, $80 per person for 3 hours, $110 per person for 4 hours

Tour Option 2 | Water Taxi Private Charter on Lake Dillon


water taxi lake dillonDuring your charter YOU tell the captain where you would like to go on the lake. You can explore secret coves, view osprey nesting in their natural habitat, keep an eye out for eagles, or bring your fishing rod and try to catch one of the many rainbow trout or Kokanee salmon. If you would like to bar hop you can cruise over to the Tiki Bar for a rum runner. We can also arrange to have food provided by the Frisco Island Grill or you may bring your own stocked coolers with food and drinks. This is a great experience for family reunions, birthday parties, wedding parties, or corporate outings.

Cost: $275 first 2 hours, $75 each additional hour, plus 20% Captain gratuity
Maximum: 18 people, more if there are a lot of children
Tour Times: 9 AM & 5:30 PM weekdays, 8 AM & 6:30 PM weekends

Tour Option 3 | Guided Kayak Tour on Lake Dillon


kayak tour lake dillonExplore Frisco Bay with abundant wildlife, small islands and a protected shoreline in a one and a half hour guided kayak tour. This Family Tour is a perfect tour for beginners and younger ages. If you would like to undertake a longer tour lasting two and a half hours, including probable sightings of eagles, osprey, trout, beavers and herons, this is great for a more challenging outing. If you are interested in experiencing the majesty of Alpenglow on the surrounding mountains while the sun sets, the one and a half sunset tour is perfect for you. If you would prefer a long adventure, the Two Towns Tour will take you all the way across the lake from Frisco to Dillon, with complimentary return on the Lake Dillon Water taxi. Your expert guides will give you a paddle lesson and share with you their love of the outdoors and knowledge of ecology. Bring along your camera as there is a spot to keep it dry.
